Education Health and Care Needs Assessments - EHCNA (including how to apply)

Within Kirklees Education Health and Care Plans are managed by a department called The EHCP Team. 

The EHCP Team can be contacted on 01484 456888 or EHCP.Team@kirklees.gov.uk

They manage EHC assessments, issuing EHCP's, EHCP reviews and commissioning education provision for children and young people with EHCP's.

New Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment Request Form for educational settings and parent/carers & young people (EHCNA)

From September 2023, there is a new form for educational settings (Early Years, School &  Post 16 settings) and parent, carers & young people to use when requesting the Local Authority (LA) to make an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment. This will need to be supported by detailed evidence of how a Graduated Approach has been used to assess, meet and review need. Educational settings will find it helpful to refer to the LA’s Graduated Approach Toolkits to support this:

The new paperwork should be easier to complete that the previous paperwork. Educational settings can continue to use the previous paperwork, but ideally, we would like all settings to have started using the new paperwork by January 2024.

Each Local Authority has created it's own version of an EHCP, they all contain the same sections but they look different.

How long does the whole process take? 

The process for getting an EHCP takes 20 weeks.
