What is the Local Offer

The Kirklees SEND Local Offer is where parents, carers, children and young people up to 25 with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) can find information, advice and guidance about support, services, educational settings and activities that are available to children and young people with SEND in Kirklees.

If you want help to use the Local Offer, please go to the page below:

How to use the Local Offer (opens link in same window)

We also provide information about services which are available outside of Kirklees but that are available to those within Kirklees.  This includes independent schools or colleges and independent services which may mean that you have to pay for them in order to access them.  We do not endorse one service or setting over another.

Information about other local authority provision can be found on their local offer websites.  These can be found on this page: What about other Local Authorities (opens link in new window)

We have also included services, activities and schools outside of Kirklees in the schools (opens link in new window), activity opens link in new window and services(opens link in new window) area of this website.

The Local Offer website provides information, advice and guidance for those aged 0-25.  If you have additional needs and are over 25 and would like to know what support is available for you, please contact Community Health and Social Care (formerly Gateway to care) on 0300 304 5555 or visit their website (opens link in new window)

The Local Offer website is something that Kirklees Council has to provide for young people with SEND and is something that is required by law.  The Children's and Family Act 2014 and the SEND Code Of Practice 2015 says that we have to have a Local Offer and also what it needs to have in it.

The Local Offer website is looked after by Kirklees Council, but is co-produced.  This means we work very closely with the people within Kirklees who will use this website to make sure it meets the needs of those who will use it the most.  We have also worked very closely with people from education, health, social care and those who provide activities for young people.

The Local Offer website has been co-produced with the help of PCAN (PCAN Website) (opens link in new window, KIAS (KIAS Website) (opens link in new window), local parents, children and young people in Kirklees with SEND as well as people from education, social care and health within Kirklees.

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the contribution of PCAN in the co-production of the new Local Offer.  PCAN have worked tirelessly to gather and communicate the views and feelings of a very large collection of parents all with their own unique experience of living as a parent of a child with SEND and the challenges this can bring.  These views have been shared since the first local offer, however now we, along with PCAN feel that we have truly included parents, carers and young people’s views and this is what makes all the difference with the new Kirklees Local Offer.

PCAN have provided a vital voice in directing us to something which meets their needs and explains things in a simple, straightforward and clearly understandable way.  They have helped us develop a very simple ethos to all information we present:

What is it? Who is it for? How do I access this?

We are committed to continue working with local people to make sure the Local Offer meets their needs.

If you would like to be involved in the co-production of the Local Offer, then please contact us at LocalOffer@kirklees.gov.uk or call us on 01484 416919

We look forward to hearing from you.

The Local Offer team.
