Don’t forget the Local Offer is coming to life on July 9th 10-6pm at the John Smith Stadium!

Local Offer Live helps families find help & support for children and young people (0-25) with SEND from services and activity providers from across Kirklees.

We have teamed up with PCAN (more info on the PCAN page)  to bring you the Local Offer Live 2024.

More than 50 organisations are booked for the event with a wide range of information on topics such as KIAS, C+K Careers, Early Support, Carers Count, Kirklees Keep In Mind as well as a range of inclusive activity providers.

Planning for the future – a message from PCAN

Many of us parents are worried about what will happen as our kids get older - where might they live, how will they manage and what do we need to do to prepare them? If they are going to be at home after finishing education, what can they be doing and what support can we get as carers? It’s difficult, but we need to consider what happens when we are gone or no longer able to care.

PCAN held an event on the 21st May for parents who wanted information about these issues and future planning for their child/young adult.

The event ran from 9.30 to 2.30 and consisted of workshops on Adult Social Care, Mental Capacity, Living Options and Wills, Trusts and Power of Attorney. There were also stallholders from a wide range of providers with information on: Adult Social Care (assessment information, transitions, enablement); independent living; day activities; employment support; estate planning; support for carers; and Kirklees Local Offer.

Feedback from parents showed that this type of event is much needed and that it is hard to find the information you need to start planning. PCAN will be starting a new piece of work to develop further online information, including on the Local Offer, and would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to assist – please see details below.

We have also had requests from lots of families for an evening event, so watch out for information as we will be announcing an autumn date soon. Thanks to everyone who supported and attended the event.
