November 2025 Kirklees SEND Newsletter

Welcome to the SEND Big Plan – Part 3

We’re pleased to confirm that the latest update to the Kirklees SEND Big Plan has now been published.

The SEND Big Plan – Part 3 was produced by the local area SEND partnership, which includes Kirklees Council, health organisations, education providers and local parent/carer group PCAN (Parents of Children with Additional Needs).

It provides more information about what we are doing in Kirklees to support children and young people with SEND, along with their families. The Big Plan – Part 3 is also our response to the recent SEND inspection.

Details are on the Kirklees Together news site, and on the Kirklees Local Offer. (opens links on a new page)

SEND learners travel in style – thanks to Roxie

We’d like to say a huge thanks to local pupil Roxie for making a new fleet of home-to-school vehicles stand out from the crowd!

Kirklees Council has introduced eight special minibuses to provide safe, reliable and high-quality transport for eligible pupils with SEND – and they feature a unique design by Roxie.

The 13-year-old won a competition where local SEND learners were invited to create bright, bold designs reflecting their voices and creativity.

Find out more, including what inspired Roxie to produce the artwork, on the Kirklees Together news site (opens link in a new page)

Local Offer Live 2025

This year’s Local Offer Live was another big success, with hundreds of families attending the event at the Accu Stadium in Huddersfield.

Organised by PCAN and supported by Kirklees Council, Local Offer Live ensured SEND services, support and activities were all brought together in one friendly space.

Thank you to everyone who attended, including the many stall holders who offered a wide range of information.

Join PCAN for a cuppa and a chat

Our local parent/carer group PCAN (Parents of Children with Additional Needs) invite you to join them in December for an informal chat. It’s good to talk to people who get where you’re coming from, especially if you’re feeling isolated or fed up, so go along to share your stories, hear from others and pick up useful information along the way.

PCAN are an independent, parent-led forum who support Kirklees families. They work with providers to make sure parents have their say in local services for children and young people with additional needs.

Their latest ‘cuppa and chat’ events are open to everyone and take place on:

  • Wednesday December 3rd (5pm to 7pm): Honley Library, West Avenue, Honley
  • Monday December 8th (6pm to 8pm): Holmfirth Library, 47 Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth
  • Wednesday December 10th (9.30am to 12.30pm): Thornhill Lees Community Centre, 53 Brewery Lane, Dewsbury
  • Thursday December 11th (9.30am to 12.30pm): The Zone, St Andrews Road, Huddersfield
  • Thursday December 11th (4pm to 6pm): Cleckheaton Library, Whitcliffe Road, Cleckheaton
  • Wednesday December 17th (4pm to 6pm): Mirfield Library, East Thorpe Lodge, Huddersfield Road, Mirfield
