Accessibility Statement

Having a life and being part of society

Living with a disability should not stop someone from leading an active and enjoyable life, and from being supported to get out and about in their local community. If your son or daughter needs support
to do this contact Community Health and Social Care (formerly known as Gateway to Care) on 0300 304 5555.

Travel training

Young people with a disability or learning needs may want to consider travel training. This is designed to give them the confidence and skills to travel independently. To access this support, talk to the SENCO or contact Kirklees Council on 01484 414933 or contact Community Health and Social Care on 0300 304 5555.

Local groups

The community directory has lots of groups available for young people to join, and is a
great way to develop skills and make new friends. Community directory groups offer various
activities such as:

• social activities
• swimming
• dance
• pool
• puzzles
• instruments
• and more

For more ideas and information visit the community directory (opens in new window)

Discount cards and passes

Please go to the Passes and Cards overview page for more information about passes and cards which can offer a range of discounts (opens in a new window).

Day opportunities

If you receive social care funding there are a range of day opportunity services.
Day opportunities provide a safe and friendly place for your son/daughter to make friends and enjoy
activities in the centres as well as in the community. A range of activities are provided such as:

• cycling

These videos help to explain how to be a part of society as you grow up.
