The Brunswick Centre - HIV Service

Marten House, Fern Street East, St Andrews Road, Huddersfield, HD1 6SB

All about us

We provide support and help with mental health to people living with HIV and to their families and carers including children and young people.

We offer a needs assessment and action planning to assist people to identify and work towards achieving their own goals. Outcomes are self-defined but generally we are working with people towards greater self-management and improved short and longer term health and wellbeing outcomes.

The length of support is flexible and tailored to an individual’s needs.

We have a HIV Community Worker who covers the Kirklees area and support can be provided at our office, in the community or at a person’s home. Support is offered to individuals who are living with HIV and to families who are affected by HIV.

The HIV Community Worker co-ordinates a Children and Family Group that meets monthly on a Saturday afternoon.

The group provides families with a safe space to meet and for the children to participate in free fun health and wellbeing orientated activities

Who is this service for?

This service is for children, young people and parents and famlies.

How to access what we do

  • Eligibility criteria are that a person has a diagnosis of HIV or is affected, for example a family member or carer.
  • Referrals can be made by another agency (mostly made by our local HIV clinics in Huddersfield and Dewsbury) or people can refer themselves. Kirklees referrals should be made to our HIV Community Worker (contact details above).
  • We have an initial appointment with the person referred either at our office or a person’s home if more appropriate to establish more about the person’s needs, inform them of our services and begin to plan a way forward.
  • This service is free of charge.
