Hillside Primary School

Headfield Road, Newsome, Huddersfield, HD4 6LU

Description of the School

We pride ourselves on a warm and friendly atmosphere combined with the highest expectations of all pupils. Our school motto is 'Believe, Achieve, Succed' because it is our vision that every child, irrespective of any barriers they may face, will believe in themselves, will achieve because they have the confidence to work hard and try new things and will feel successful in themselves as a result.

It is a reasonably large primary school for children aged between 4 and 11 years old and the standard admissions process applies.

The Assistant Head has over 17 years’ experience of working with children with additional needs and is a Local Authority Special Educational Needs (SEN) /PCA Champion. The school has qualified specialist additional needs staff across all areas of the curriculum. We have achieved the Kirklees Inclusion Quality Gold Standard.

Our Inclusion Offer

At Hillside we believe it is the right of every child to have access to an education where barriers to learning are minimised. We strive to enable every child to have access to a broad and balanced curriculum whilst providing opportunities for specific specialist support to meet the needs of the individual.

Parents are the experts where their children are concerned and we place pupils and their parents at the centre of our approach, providing morning Drop-In Sessions, informal after-school discussions and more formal meetings by appointment for parents to discuss any concerns with our friendly and professional team.

We have a whole-school approach to additional needs. Pupils identified as having additional needs are, as far as possible, fully integrated into mainstream classes. Every effort is made to ensure that they have full access to the National Curriculum and all aspects of the school, including the extended curriculum (such as school trips and before- and after-school clubs).

Complaints Process

It is always nice to know when we are getting things right and equally important to deal as quickly as possible with any issues that arise. We keep in touch with parents and carers via the website, Facebook, Twitter, texts, letters, parents evenings and learning workshops as well as asking for the opinions of parents and carers via surveys throughout the year. If you are pleased or unhappy with your experiences at Hillside, please let a member of staff know as soon as possible. The Procedure for Handling Complaints Policy is available on the website (opens new page)  or in paper on request from the school office.
