A series of drop-in sessions is being held about new proposals for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) places in Kirklees schools.

We are seeking your views about the proposals, which look to expand the amount of SEND provision in mainstream schools and develop our support for children and young people.

Many pupils with additional learning needs can make better, more sustained progress when they attend a mainstream setting. The council is therefore seeking to increase this provision in mainstream schools and provide targeted and specialist support for those who need it.

The proposals include new ‘Additionally Resourced Provisions’ at a range of schools across Kirklees. They would be for children and young people with: Complex Communication and Interaction Needs; Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs; and Cognition and Learning Needs.

It is a council priority for all children and young people to have the best possible start in life. The proposals are part of our wider transformation of SEND services, which also includes securing new, multi-million pound investment.

By sharing your views through the consultation, you can help to shape the way our vulnerable pupils are supported. Everyone is welcome at the consultation drop-in sessions, which will be a chance to ask questions and provide feedback.

Monday 18 July – Batley Library, 6pm-7pm

Wednesday 20 July – Dewsbury Library, 10am-11am

Thursday 21 July – Huddersfield Library, 1pm-2pm

Thursday 21 July – Huddersfield Library, 6pm-7pm
