Children's Epilepsy Team
The Children’s Epilepsy team provides care and support to Children & Young People who have a diagnosis of epilepsy, and their families, living mainly but not exclusively within Calderdale & Greater Huddersfield.
The Epilepsy team is currently staffed by two Consultant Paediatricians, and one Associate Specialist, who all have expertise in childhood epilepsy.
The team includes two full time Specialist Epilepsy Nurses, who provide advisory, educational and outreach support in the community setting. The Epilepsy Nursing team also provide a telephone advice service Mon-Fri 8am – 4pm and an answer machine facility is available where messages can be left for the Nursing team out of hours.
Specialist Epilepsy clinics involving all the team are held on alternate weeks at Calderdale Royal Hospital & Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (Acre Mill).

If you or a family member have been told that you have epilepsy, there will be lots of questions you may want to ask.
For example:
- What is epilepsy?
- Why have I / my child developed epilepsy?
- How will it affect my/ their life?
- Will I / they be taking drugs forever?
And possibly many more questions.
The role of the Epilepsy Nurse is to help, advise and support you through the maze of questions.
She/he can also advise and educate your family, school and friends about epilepsy and its management
Information and Education about Epilepsy
The Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse can spend time with you and your family either in the
clinic or at your home, to discuss any issues you may have concerning epilepsy.
The Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse can ensure you receive the appropriate information and education regarding a whole range of subjects related to your epilepsy.
