All about us

Deaf EXperience Limited (DEX) is a charity which campaigns nationally to improve access to education, wellbeing and quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing young people.

We support deaf young people across Yorkshire to meet other young deaf people and to share their experiences. We welcome young people with any level of deafness and all communication methods.

DEX uses the English dictionary definition of the term “deaf” to mean “wholly or partially without hearing” to apply to all deaf children and young people.

We usually meet in the evenings and weekends, and also have a lunch-time drop in during the week.

We also provide advocacy support to young deaf people.

Events are free of charge where the charity is able to cover costs.

Who is this service for?

We have a group for teenagers 11-17 which usually meets in Halifax – Calderdale Deaf Youth Hub.

We also have a group for young adults age 17-30 (DEX Deaf Youth Council – DDYC).

We cater for deaf people whatever their language or communication preference. Most of our members previously attended mainstream schools. Deaf people with or without disabilities, are welcome and we will try our best to meet individual needs.
