Home-Start Kirklees - Home-Visiting Family Support Service

Bates Mill, Colne Road, Huddersfield, HD1 3AG

All about us

Home-Start Kirklees uses the help of fully trained parent support volunteers. Our volunteers work alongside our trained staff who have been delivering specialist support to families in Kirklees for more than 25 years. Our service is flexible, friendly and designed around the needs of the families we work with. We provide a non-judgmental, inclusive environment which builds confidence, connection and parenting skills, whilst supporting emotional wellbeing and social development

The support we offer is as individual as the families themselves.  Home Start volunteers visit a family at a time that is convenient to them.  They will give up to three hours of their time on weekly basis to help parents in the home or to access community provision and/or medical appointments.

“Home-Start raises self-confidence, improves social networks and provides practical and emotional support for parents/carers”

Support for dads in the peri-natal period (birth – 2 years) Our Dad Matters project reaches, engages, and supports dads and father figures during the perinatal period. It focuses on attachment and bonding, mental health, supporting partners, and accessing services. We offer information, advice and guidance as well as bespoke 1:1 support, community activities, and clear signposting to local resources, creating a safe and inclusive space for dads to thrive.

Young Parents (14-24 years) We support Young Parents up to 24yrs and Teen Parents from 14–18yrs. We provide tailored support for young mums, dads, and parents to be. We focus on building positive relationships, confidence, and peer support through a mix of 1:1 sessions, group work, and community activities, helping young parents feel connected, supported, and empowered in their parenting journey.
