Kirklees Young Carers – Barnardo’s
National Childrens Centre Brian Jackson House 2 New North Parade Huddersfield, HD1 5JPAll about us
A young carer looks after another person who has an illness or disability who lives in the same household. They could be helping to care for their mother, father, brother, sister or someone else in their household. This could mean a variety of undertakings from listening and/or keeping them company, cooking meals, making drinks, cleaning, tidying the house, providing personal care, doing shopping, helping with medication, organising finances, to name a few.
We work alongside young carers to develop their skills and strengths to achieve their own goals. Young carers may be supported by Kirklees Young Carers to reach their goals in a variety of ways including:
- one to one and group support
- activity days
- support around education, training, and employment
- speaking to other agencies and professionals about how they can help
- raising awareness of young carer issues and delivering training to other professionals
- helping parents to improve the health and wellbeing of their children
