Experience Community CIC
The Civic Basement, New Street, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, HD7 5ABAll about us
Experience Community is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that specialises in supporting physically disabled people in accessing the outdoors through a range of walking, cycling, arts and conservation activities. We are a peer-led organisation, meaning that many of our lead staff have lived experience with physical disabilities.
We run wheelchair skills courses, trike and cycle taster sessions and training sessions so that people can build up their skills, strength and confidence with the equipment and enable them to join us on longer rides and rambles.
Our activities include Mountain Trike rambles and Adapted Cycle rides in the Peak District and the Pennine Hills, National Trust & RSPB sites and the Yorkshire Dales, in addition to residential trips such as at Kielder Forest in Northumberland or Aviemore in Scotland. We also arrange regular walks, rides and rambles in Kirklees and throughout West Yorkshire. You can see these events on our Facebook page.
Because different people have varying abilities, we don’t say what is or isn’t accessible, we simply provide:
- information so that you can decide if the activity is suitable for your needs
- videos so that you can see exactly what the walk or activity has to offer
- written information, maps, photos and links to other websites so that you can really get a grasp of what to expect
As well as providing access to our fleet of adaptive off-road equipment, Experience Community can also provide equipment hire (anything from short-term 1 day hires up 3 years) and various purchase options to those individuals who would like to be more independently active.
We campaign regionally for improved access to the countryside for people with disabilities, helping to inform policy at a strategic level. We are currently working in partnership with the RSPB, The National Trust, National Landscapes, and Yorkshire Water.
Who is this service for?
