Proposals to expand Woodley School and College

You can now have your say on a proposal to increase the number of special school places at Woodley School and College.

Woodley caters for children and young people with additional needs and welcomes pupils from across the whole district.

The consultation is about increasing the number of places gradually, ahead of and leading up to the school moving into a new and bigger building.

It’s vital that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are able to have the very best start in life.

Kirklees Council is currently expanding the amount of SEND provision in Kirklees schools to develop support for children and young people.

The proposals for Woodley are part of the Council’s wider transformation of SEND services and they are keen to hear your views as this will help to shape the way forward.

Work is ongoing to provide superb new facilities for Woodley School and College, which will move to a new site in Almondbury to better meet the needs of pupils. This is a long-term process involving a multi-million pound investment in vulnerable children, young people and families.

Alongside this, another special school, Joseph Norton Academy – which caters for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties - is also planned to move into a fantastic new building.

The proposal for Woodley is to increase the number of places to 194. For further details and to express your views, please visit the School Organisation page on the Council website.
