Many young people with SEND have their needs met within a mainstream setting. Inclusive education is a very important part of the SEND Code of Practice.
Sometimes a young person needs to go to different, more specialist setting due to their needs. This specialist setting may have a specific environment which cannot be delivered in all settings.

Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARP's)
Kirklees has several Additionally Resourced Provisions (or ARP's). These are linked to mainstream schools and are based on the same site.
ARP's provide an alternative setting which includes specialist support and smaller class sizes. They also provide a bespoke curriculum more suited to the needs of the young people.
ARP's are designed for young people who need a mix of mainstream education along with specialist support.
Young people need to have an EHCP to go to an ARP. You can find more about EHCP's here.
How to apply for an ARP place
To access a place in an ARP, an EHCP review needs to take place where this can be discussed and then the request would be passed onto the EHCP team. More information about EHCP reviews can be found here.
It is a good idea to speak with the SENDCO at the current setting about this before the review.
You can find out more about The EHCP Team here.

The request will then be considered by the council and they will either agree or disagree with the request.
If they agree then they will state that an ARP is suitable. The type of ARP allocated will be based on the primary area of need in the young persons EHCP.
If they do not agree, then an appeal can be raised. More information about appeals can be found here.
Kirklees currently has 14 ARP's, each of them is designed for a particular area of need.
These areas of need are:
- Communication & Interaction (including Autism) - CCI
- Cognition & Learning - C&L
- Social, Emotional & Mental Health - SEMH
- Physical Impairment - PI
- Hearing impairment - HI
- Visual impairment - VI
