Kirklees Additionally Resourced Provisions - ARP's

Many young people with SEND have their needs met within a mainstream setting. Inclusive education is a very important part of the SEND Code of Practice.

Sometimes a young person needs to go to different, more specialist setting due to their needs. This specialist setting may have a specific environment which cannot be delivered in all settings.

Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARP's)

Kirklees has several Additionally Resourced Provisions (or ARP's). These are linked to mainstream schools and are based on the same site.

ARP's provide an alternative setting which includes specialist support and smaller class sizes. They also provide a bespoke curriculum more suited to the needs of the young people.

ARP's are designed for young people who need a mix of mainstream education along with specialist support.

Young people need to have an EHCP to go to an ARP.  You can find more about EHCP's here.

How to apply for an ARP place

To access a place in an ARP, an EHCP review needs to take place where this can be discussed and then the request would be passed onto the EHCP team.   More information about EHCP reviews can be found here.

It is a good idea to speak with the SENDCO at the current setting about this before the review.

You can find out more about The EHCP Team here.

The request will then be considered by the council and they will either agree or disagree with the request.

If they agree then they will state that an ARP is suitable.  The type of ARP allocated will be based on the primary area of need in the young persons EHCP.

If they do not agree, then an appeal can be raised.  More information about appeals can be found here.

Kirklees currently has 14 ARP's, each of them is designed for a particular area of need.

Young people's views

"I like always having someone to talk to who I can trust".

"I really enjoy the trips we go on. They have helped me grow in confidence."

"ARP staff challenge me and push me outside of my comfort zone. I like this as it has helped me be more independent."

"I feel safe in the ARP."

Parent feedback

"My daughter has only recently started going and has built great relations with the staff in the RP. She is very happy and speaks highly of the staff and facilities. She also appreciates the many different opportunities and trips available.

The ARP has been the main reason that my child is able to attend a mainstream high school and maintain their education as is. Without them, they wouldn't have achieved the level of learning that they currently have.

I am always happy to share how fantastic I think the provision is. It doesn't matter which staff member I talk to they all show consistent support and knowledge of my child's needs.. which is very reassuring. All problems are dealt with immediately and with care. The support staff and teaching staff offer such skilled expertise that have made a positive impact on my child. I also love the work that goes into mainstream school, again offering consistently and care. Fantastic provision, fantastic staff and fantastic students.. well done provision

Amazing as always. Thanks for everything you do."

Grandparents feedback

"Our Grandson started in the ARP in sept. We were a little apprehensive as he seemed so settled at pre-school and we were worried how he would cope with the change.

From day 1 he settled the staff are so caring and always on hand to give advice where needed.

Our Grandchild had come on so much. He has improved in every area. I cried reading his report it was so positive. We also received a learning journal with photos of him completing activities with staff and peers. We are so happy we have a place in Netherhall ARP"

More parent feedback

"My daughter has spent the first two years of her school life in an ARP , and the love and care she has received during this time have been truly remarkable.

She developed strong, meaningful relationships with all her teachers and support staff, and it’s clear that these bonds have made a lasting positive impact on her. The ARP has provided a nurturing environment where she has been supported to reach the best possible levels of her potential. The daily play, structured routines, and joyful learning have helped her grow into a happy, confident girl.

She will carry the love, security, and social skills she gained in the ARP with her into the next stage of her education. I will always be grateful for the positive start they have given her."
