Ethos Academy Trust (Engage, Reach and Ethos)

"When I first started Ethos College I thought it was just another school like my last one.  However, Ethos changed the way I look at life massively.  They turned my life around, helping me through my daily struggles and made me the man I am now.  Without them I would have probably been just another lad, out of work and sat at home doing nothing but now I have my own company and I'm living life to its fullest."

Ethos Academy Trust (opens link in new window) comprises Engage Academy (Key Stage 1 & 2), Reach Academy (Key Stage 3) and Ethos College (Key Stage 4) in Kirklees. The Trust also have an AP setting in Wakefield and new specialist SEMH Free School in Rotherham. Ethos College is a well-established Alternative Provision Academy (AP) delivering full time education for Key Stage 4 pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs with an Education, health and Care Plan (EHCP). The route of admission is consultation, in line with the Code of Practice.

Ethos College has a long-standing reputation for achieving outstanding outcomes with vulnerable pupils. Our nurture-based philosophy underpins our practice. We provide a caring, stimulating, safe and welcoming environment where learning is enjoyable, and teaching is personalised to the needs and interests of individuals. Pupils are supported to fulfil their academic potential whilst developing the confidence and skills required to succeed in post-16 education, employment or training.

We recognise that children and young people may experience a wide range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and may present themselves in a variety of ways. These may include becoming withdrawn or isolated from their friends and studies through to displaying challenging, disruptive or disturbing behaviours. For many young people these behaviours may reflect underlying mental health needs.

Our outstanding staff team are skilled at working with young people with needs across the SEMH range. In partnership with parents, carers and other professionals, we take a holistic approach to ensuring a pupil’s needs are identified and met throughout their journey at Ethos College by providing a curriculum which addresses academic needs as well as SEMH needs through quality first teaching and targeted interventions, preparing pupils for the next stage of their lives.
